Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, Inc. partnered with Equip to Excel in the Coweta County Schools in collaboration with Goodwill.

Coweta County Schools sent five students in the Equip to Excel program to volunteer at the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity ReStore. At the store the students learned valuable lessons geared toward skill development for job readiness after graduation.

The ReStore serves as a workplace and prepares the students for professional growth they could use on their resumes. The students were given a safe, clean and non-discriminatory place to learn to be productive citizens within the community, which fulfills the mission of “building better communities and hope.”

These young adults started coming in October for two hours each Wednesday morning and will finish this month at the end of the semester. The student participants are Kevin Cormier, Ben Ricker, Stacy Brooks, Thomas Logan and Chrishaad Stinson.

“These students have a positive attitude and eagerness to help; they process donations for the store, where the funds received go toward building more homes to serve more families,” according to a spokesperson.

This past Wednesday several of the students were in the Christmas spirit following Giving Tuesday and helped give back by decorating for the Christmas holiday.

Alice Muetzel, Community Outreach Coordinator for NCHFH commented on how great it was to have these young adults and how much they will be missed.

NCHFH looks for continued efforts to serve community needs by partnering with individuals and businesses through team building volunteer sponsorship and many other opportunities.
