PTC sees slight uptick in serious crimes

Peachtree City enjoys one of the lowest crime rates for cities its size in Georgia. Information supplied by the Peachtree City Police Department through October shows a slight increase in serious crimes over the same period in 2013.

Peachtree City had 27 Part I crimes in October and 32 Part I crimes in September. Part I crimes are those of a serious nature and include offenses such as homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, theft, arson, motor vehicle theft and burglary.

Year to date records show a total of 388 Part I crimes compared to 366 for the same period in 2013.

Records show 18 DUI arrests in October compared to eight in September. There have been 102 DUI arrests thus far in 2014 compared to 127 for the same period a year ago.

Arrests for drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine totaled six in October and six in September. Year to date totals for 2014 showed 73 arrests compared to 78 for the same period a year ago.

Department data shows 18 traffic offenses in October and 12 in September while the numbers for January through October showed 157 offenses compared to 193 a year ago.

The department is on track to answer 50,000 calls by the end of the year. Officers responded to 4,478 calls in October and another 4,870 calls in September. Officers so far this year have responded to 42,075 calls compared to 39,557 calls for the same period in 2013.

Monthly data also provides a breakdown in areas such as the number of citations issued and the number of warnings issued.

Officers issued 554 citations in October and another 538 in September. Officers have issued 5,651 citations so far this year compared to the 6,392 issued for the same time period in 2013.

Not every traffic stop results in a citation. Monthly data for October showed 746 warnings issued compared to 720 issued in September. Year to date figures show 7,330 warnings this year compared to 6,936 for the same period in 2013.
