New soundstages to make facililty largest in Georgia

Earth-moving equipment is being assembled on the 288-acre Pinewood Atlanta Studios property on Veterans Parkway in Fayetteville for the next installment of movie-making soundstages, workshop space and offices.

Land disturbance permit plans obtained from the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Department show five buildings totaling 176,000 sq. ft. to be constructed to the south of the existing six soundstages and other buildings.

The five new additional soundstages will make Pinewood Atlanta the largest film studio facility in Georgia, according to Film Fayette, the marketing arm of the Fayette County Development Authority.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios development manager Jim Pace, of Group VI, noted the beginnings of the Phase 2 project. Slated to come out of the ground in the coming weeks are five buildings to the south of the current structures on the 288-acre property.

One of the buildings will house two 20,000 sq. ft. soundstages (stages 7 and 8) and 20,000 sq. ft. of office space. A second building will house soundstage 6 at 30,000 sq. ft.

Soundstages 10 and 11 will also be constructed at 18,000 sq. ft. each.

The final building to go up in the initial portion of Phase 2 will be a 50,000 sq. ft. workshop building.

“Rick Halbert (Halbert Development) and I are very pleased to continue to be a part of the Pinewood project and the Phase 2 development,” Pace said.

Meanwhile at Pinewood Atlanta, work continues on the studio’s first production, “Ant-Man,” due to be released in 2015.
