Thomas Matthew Tamblyn, Jr., 88, of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away November 10, 2014.
He was born June 21, 1926 in Birmingham, Ala. and graduated from West End High School in Birmingham on May of 1944. He joined the Navy in 1944, served in the Pacific on the USS Gordonia and USS Kasaan Bay, and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, he met Mary Alice Fulmer and was married on December 19, 1947 in Birmingham, Ala. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (War Eagle) and graduated with a BS from the School of Science and Literature in 1951. He then joined Southern Natural Gas Company, serving in a variety of roles including HR and engineering, until his retirement in 1983. He dedicated his working career building natural gas pipelines in the southeastern US. He loved the outdoors, was a scratch golfer, a pretty good tennis player, strong member of the community and of the churches he attended. The last two being First Baptist Church and Briarwood Presbyterian Church, both in Birmingham where he served as a deacon in both. He put his faith in God in all things and will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice, and his son, Dr. Matt Tamblyn.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law Linda Tamblyn; daughter Donna Reis & husband Ricky; son Dan Tamblyn and wife Kathy; daughter Rebecca Nichols; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Tamblyn, and nieces & nephews.
The family held visitation Friday, November 14, 2014 from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., (EST) at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City, Ga.
A graveside service was held Saturday, November 15, 2014, at 1 p.m. (CST) at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala. The family received friends from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. (CST) prior to the service at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel, Birmingham, Ala.
