Several girls from Troop 189 completed the requirements and recently earned the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Four members, Rebecca McDonald, Rachel Parker, Audrey Fecteau and Kara Fecteau, each worked well over the required 50-hours to complete their project. The girls renovated the Bennett’s Mill Middle School’s “corral” and created an outdoor classroom.

They also weeded, mulched and spruced up existing gardens using low maintenance, native plants. Troop 189 member Lindsey Poff focused on her neighborhood by surveying residents for input and as a result, created a safer area at the clubhouse and pool, provided receptacles for trash, and beautified the entryway with native plants.

Jeanna Speck created a Little Library using recycled materials and leftover supplies from local builders. The library was installed at Prime Investment Gardens and will be registered on the Little Library website.

Earning the Silver Award takes a lot of dedication and a willingness to work hard, try new things and be flexible. The Silver Award is the highest award that can be earned by a Cadette Girl Scout.
