The teachers, law enforcement professionals, social service agencies and other organizations in Fayette County have a big job providing for children and families in our community. The Strengthening Families Fall Symposium will give them tools and information to do their jobs better.

The mission of FACTOR is to coordinate resources by bringing all areas of the community together to build a safe and healthy Fayette County through education, networking, and advocacy.

FACTOR Executive Director Becky Smith explained, “We envision a Fayette where every family is stable and self-sufficient and all children are healthy, ready to start school and do well when they get there. This Symposium will give families the tools to improve their chances of reaching these goals.”

There are three main tracks of workshops being presented including Prevention, Governance/Professional Development, and Mental Health/Child Development. The event will also feature two keynote presentations by Dr. Terry Oatts, Assistant Superintendent of Fayette Schools, and Sandra Deal, first lady of Georgia.

Smith said “We are excited to have Georgia’s first lady, Sandra Deal as our lunch keynote speaker. Mrs. Deal’s commitment to promoting a statewide effort to strengthen and support families and communities so beautifully aligns with FACTOR’s and we are honored to have her with us for this important event.”

The commitment of FACTOR includes providing high quality educational opportunities. The Fall Symposium was developed around this commitment. Attendees will gain valuable skills to help them meet the challenges that the families they serve face, while gaining NBCC CEU’s.

The Strengthening our Families Fall Symposium is Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grace Church at 164 Flat Creek Trail in Fayetteville. Registration and a light breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Tickets are $40 for FACTOR members or groups of 10 or more, or $60 for non-members and can be purchased at www.fayettefactor.org.
