Peachtree City is home to a lot of famous people. Ralph Boston is one such celebrity. In 1961, Ralph broke the long-jump world record that had been held by Jesse Owens for 25 years. He was the first human to jump over 27 feet.He won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Rome. He followed up with Silver and Bronze medals in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics respectively before retiring.
After his “first” retirement, Boston worked for the University of Tennessee, and then CBS Sports Spectacular. He was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1974, and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1985.
Last week, Boston spoke to the Peachtree City Rotary Club. He shared his trials and adventures, and the lessons he learned during his athletic career.He speaks at many schools to encourage youngsters to stay in school and be responsible. Photo/Submitted.
