Fayette County Retired Educators, an advocacy and information sharing group of Teachers Retirement System of Georgia members, meets today at 10:30 at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center. Our program will feature a team from TRS bringing us the latest information on ‘our’ retirement system. TRS members, their spouses and the general public are invited. Run Like a Diva Half Marathon & 5K is today. Check-in at 6:45 a.m. 5K begins at 7:15 and half marathon at 7:30 a.m. at Shakerag Knoll, 192 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City.
This event has wonderful perks that make it “diva-ish” including feather boa stations and tiara stops along the course, roses and bubbly at the finish line, shiny medals, women’s fit tech T-shirts, post-race concert, two-day health and fitness boutique, drawstring Diva backpacks and much more. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting today at The Bridge Community Center, 225 Willowbend Rd., Peachtree City. Refreshments and social time begin at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m. Sara Henderson, director of gardens for the Historic Oakland Cemetery Foundation, will speak on “Oakland’s Timeless Gardens.” Her talk includes an overview of Oakland’s rich history and the ongoing restoration of the Victorian gardens which are filled with heirloom flowers for the enjoyment of all who visit Oakland throughout the year. A Tribute to Sir Elton John concert is today

Karen Kain will open with an inspiring talk about hope for parents and caregivers of special needs children. The keynote is Dr. Robert Melillo, PhD, who will speak about Functional Disconnection – how each half of the brain works to influence learning, behaviors, and general health. And local pediatrician, Dr. Jill Dickerson, will offer advice about food, nutrition, and biomedical interventions that can enhance brain and body health. The panel at the end of the day will feature all three speakers and your questions.
