Peter Viator Harrington, 77, of Peachtree City, passed away August 5, 2014.

He was born June 2, 1937 in Chicago, Ill. to Pete and Nellie Harrington. He was the third of six children; 5 boys and one girl. He graduated from Marquette University in 1959. He met his wife, Cathy at Marquette and they married in 1962.

Peter taught at Rufus King High School and Shorewood High School in the Milwaukee area. He went to Purdue University and received his Master’s Degree in Economic Education in 1968. A year later, he joined the Purdue University faculty, teaching Economic Education and was the Director of the Indiana Council for Economic Education. He was named in rank and title of a “Sagamore of the Wabash” in 1997 by the governor of Indiana.

Pete and Cathy had five children; Peter, Bob, Katie, Mary and Dan. After retiring from Purdue in 1997 they moved to Fallbrook, Calif. where they lived for six years. They then moved to Peachtree City, Ga.

During retirement, Pete volunteered at nursing homes, taking his therapy dog, Murphy and then Riley to visit the people. He did that in California under the direction of St. Peter’s and also did para liturgies there.

In Peachtree City, he was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister and also took the Eucharist to the homebound and nursing homes. He and dog Riley, were well known at Southland Nursing home.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy of 52 years; Peter & Lisa Harrington of Indianapolis, Robert & Jennifer Harrington of Iowa, Kathleen & Chris Murphy of Indiana, Mary & Al Uszynski of Peachtree City, Ga. and Dan & Kim Harrington of Indiana; grandchildren, Morgan, Kelsey, Mackenzie and Keelin Harrington; Nick, Allie, Kaitlin and Emma Harrington; Ashley and Shawn Verkey; Kayla, Izette and Alexis Murphy; Megan and Jack Uszynski; Peter, Abby and Samuel(deceased) Harrington; brother Tim Harrington and sister Marge Bowler.

Peter had his priorities in order, loved God, his family; his job and he really loved and inspired others.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Mowell Funeral home, Peachtree City, Friday from 5 until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul.
