John Melvin Currie, 65, of Peachtree City passed away July 9, 2014.

Mr. Currie graduated from Murrah High School of Jackson, Miss. class of 1966; he then went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi class of 1971. He was retired from Medtronic, a medical device sales company, and also as a realtor with Metro Brokers in Peachtree City. Mr. Currie had also served as a scout master for troop 181, and he also enjoyed his time with friends at Mimi’s Restaurant. Mr. Currie was a member of Pleasant Valley Church in Thomaston, Ga. His most important role was as “poppy” to his 4 grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Currie; son Bryan (Jennifer) Currie; daughter Julie (Sean) Blonk; grandchildren Alexander and Gavin Currie & Vivien and Asher Blonk; brother Jim (Janis) Currie; sister Marion (Gary) Silber; nephew Matt Currie; nieces Wyeth Silber, Deb Thomas and Susan Thomas.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Peachtree City Chapel with Pastor Scott Harper officiating. The interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, Ga. The family received friends Saturday 12 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
