A young Fayetteville man remained in jail Tuesday, accused of fleeing the scene of a suspected DUI crash that seriously injured two passengers in his vehicle June 22.
Hunter Ross Cooper, 18, of Fayetteville faces multiple charges for fleeing the Buckeye Road crash scene on foot and his grandmother, George Ann Brown, 69, of Fayetteville is accused of abetting his getaway by picking him up following the crash.
Cooper’s charges include obstruction of a law enforcement officer, two felony counts of causing serious injury by vehicle, DUI, endangering a child while DUI, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a revoked or suspended license and other traffic offenses along with one charge of violating probation, according to jail documents. Brown has been charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a police officer, officials said.
When deputies responded to the crash site around 9:45 p.m. June 23, they found three injured passengers ranging from 16 to 20 years old, Babb said. Another injured passenger, a female, had fled the scene with Cooper initially but was located on Buckeye Road and taken to a hospital for treatment, Babb said.
According to court documents, at the time of the crash Cooper was out on bond from an April 16 tangle with sheriff’s deputies in which he was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, obstruction of an officer, driving too fast for conditions and a brake light/turn signal violation.
The bonding company has since revoked its bond offer, according to court documents.
