Local author and publishing entrepreneur Milton Davis returns to the Fayette County Public Library June 28 at 1 p.m. to speak on the topic, “Publishing Your Book.”

The program is open to the public and offered free of charge, with no registration needed.

Davis, a Fayetteville resident who describes himself as a full-time chemist and a part-time writer, has been writing fiction in his spare time for most of his life.

When he decided to get serious about publishing his first novel, “Meji,” he thoroughly researched both the traditional publishing route and the possibility of working with one of the numerous self-publishing houses that have cropped up over the last decade or so.

Not encouraged by what he found, Davis went for the hands-on, do-it-yourself approach, establishing his own small publishing company, MVmedia, to produce and promote his own books.

MVmedia continues to manifest Milton Davis’ vision of developing and promoting science fiction, fantasy and action stories inspired by African history and mythology.

Since 2008, MVmedia has published a dozen full-length books by Davis and others, including novels and short-story anthologies, selling throughout the country as well as internationally. The most recent addition to the lineup is MVmedia’s first title for young readers, “Amber and the Hidden City,” about a suburban Atlanta 13-year-old who discovers her birthright as a member of the royal family of the magical kingdom of Marai.

Saturday’s session at the library is not just for science fiction and fantasy writers, however.

Aspiring authors in any genre can benefit from the expertise Milton Davis will share with his audience.

Topics will include preparing and assembling a book for publication, getting the book printed, and marketing and selling the finished product. Davis tells it like it is, and is always happy to answer audience questions following his presentation.

Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of MVmedia books, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library, the nonprofit group whose ongoing financial and volunteer support makes possible a wide variety of library programs and services for all ages.

The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administrative complex in downtown Fayetteville, at the southwest corner of Highways 85 and 54. For additional information, please contact the library at 770-461-8841
