All high schools dream of having a successful head football coach.

This fall Our Lady of Mercy will have three proven veterans on the same staff.

Going into his fifth season at OLM, Mike Earwood has taken a program that won ten games in ten years and now is coming off consecutive winning seasons and state playoff appearances. He joined the Bobcats after a very successful stint at Starr’s Mill, where he started the Panthers’ football program and had eight winning seasons and as many trips to the state playoffs in 12 years.

Glenn Griffin joined Earwood’s staff in 2012 after three years as the head coach at McIntosh.

The two men first met in high school and have been close friends ever since, coaching together 24 of the past 27 years.

The newest member of the OLM staff with head coaching experience is Clint Wade, who just concluded a six-year run leading the program at East Coweta. Under his leadership the Indians went to the state playoffs every year.

These three men have a combined 100 years of high school coaching experience.

Wade spent two weeks with the Bobcats in spring practice and is excited about the upcoming season.

“I look forward to working with these young men and it’s a privilege to coach alongside Coach Earwood and Coach Griffin,” said Wade.

“Our football program is all about the kids,” said OLM principal Brian Newhall. “Our coaching staff focuses on kids being successful on the playing field, weight room and in the class room. I am proud to add Clint Wade to the coaching staff.”

The Bobcats open the 2014 season Aug. 29 at Pace Academy.
