Starr’s Mill student wins Atlanta art award

A Starr’s Mill student, Ziyan “Lisa” Tan, walked away with one of the top prizes during the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

Winners of the 2014 Atlanta High School Art Exhibition (AHSAE) including the People’s Choice Award were announced, and this year’s winners share in nearly $40,000 in scholarships and prizes for this professional-level competition that is sponsored and funded by the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

AHSAE received more than 700 entries from talented young artists throughout Atlanta and Georgia this year, and the best 117 were displayed at the 78th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival April 11 – 13.

The juried event featured nine winning pieces, four honorable mentions and a People’s Choice Award, which was determined as festival attendees visited the AHSAE and voted. “Ataraxis” by Ziyan “Lisa” Tan, senior at Starr’s Mill High School won third place,
