Darrell Ray Phillips, 64 year old husband of Valerie Voyles Phillips and father of Emily JoAnne Phillips, all of Fayetteville, Ga., died on Sunday, April 6, 2014 in a house fire that also claimed the lives of his wife and daughter, along with Coaster, the cat and Daisy, the dog.

A graduate of Jonesboro Senior High School, Darrell spent most of his adult life in auto parts sales and was known for his love of golfing and his ability to make people laugh. “He knew everything you could know about cars,” says his son Daniel, “and he could tell the same joke over and over and over again and still make you laugh.”

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Estine Phillips; a sister Joretha (Jo) Grimes; and a brother Tyrone Phillips. He is survived by his son Daniel (Alexis) Phillips and their two children; daughters Susan Huckestein and Samatha (Gustav) Vogas; his brother Eddie Phillips; sisters Dorothy Phillips, Judith Kayse, and Betty Hayes; and many other loving relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Valerie, Darrell, and Emily on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the Worship Center at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Interment will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Darrell’s name to the Annie Armstrong Mission Fund at Fayetteville First Baptist Church, 205 Stonewall Avenue East, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214.
