A proposal to rezone five acres on Ga. Highway 16 East near the Orchard Hills Golf Club to Light Industrial (LM) was approved March 18 by the Coweta County Commission. The former Andy’s Nursery property will be converted to a contractor yard by applicant Chad Caldwell.

Commissioners voted unanimously to rezone the C-3 (Commercial Retail) property to LM so Caldwell can convert the former nursery showroom into office space. The adjoining greenhouses will be removed and replaced by a metal building to house the maintenance facility for the contractor’s fleet, county Planning Director Robert Tolleson said in a Feb. 1 letter.

The property is surrounded by others carrying industrial, commercial and rural conservation zoning designations.

There were no speakers during public comments. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the request with no discussion.

Commissioners later in the meeting voted unanimously to approve a variance request for the property that included a 50-foot buffer reduction.
