The Georgia High School Association announced Wednesday that the state wrestling tournament, originally scheduled for this weekend, has been postponed a week.
“The GHSA has been monitoring the weather conditions and there remains the possibility of more ice and snow in many parts of the state,” according to a statement on the GHSA web site. “We agree with the school systems that the safety of students, athletes and their supporters must be a major consideration when making decisions and support them in their efforts.”
The tournament will take place Feb. 21-22 but there is another wrinkle. The original site, the Arena at Gwinnett, cannot be used next weekend because of its own prior commitments. The GHSA is said to be “exploring several options for alternate host sites.”
