Martin Luther King Day Celebration is today at 8 p.m. at Congregation B’nai Israel in Fayette County.

The Fayette County Historical Society will old its annual January meeting by holding its Work Day. Members and friends will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. to file, cut articles from newspapers, update its inventory records and of course, do some thorough cleaning. 770-461-9270.

The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP in partnership with the Fayette County Board of Education will present the 14th annual parade and subsequent 14th annual commemorative program in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday holiday today.
The keynote speaker is JCarolyn Maull McKinstry.
The Fayette County Branch invites the community; churches, fraternities, sororities, organizations and businesses to participate in the parade and program.  Parade participants can secure a parade entry form or register online by accessing the branch’s website, www.fcnaacp.org.Pre-parade breakfast items will be available for a nominal fee from 8:45-10 a.m. in the Fayette County High School Parking Lot and the LaFayette Education Bldg D. The parade will start from the Fayette County High School parking lot at 10 a.m. and subsequent commemorative program will begin at 11:45 am in F. A. Sams Auditorium, 205 LaFayette Drive, Fayetteville. Post program events are tentatively scheduled and will be announced on the day of the event.

The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to the King Center at  8:30 a.m.
The King Center was established in 1968 by Coretta Scott King and is a living memorial dedicated to advancing the legacy of Dr. King. The King Center has a great collection of artifacts on display for everyone to see. Come see this powerful place where Dr. King’s legacy will live forever. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to the Margaret Mitchell House from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The trip leaves from The Life Enrichment Center. Fayetteville. Join us as we go and visit a turn of the century Tudor Revival building where the beloved Margaret Mitchell lived and wrote the famous Gone With the Wind. The Margaret Mitchell House is home to the apartment in which this famous author had her inspiration and maintains the original architectural features. The Friends of the Library book sale is today  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Fayette County Public Library. Fayetteville.  Over 9,000 gently-read books will be available for purchase.  Prices range from  $.25 for most children’s books to $5 for books by the latest best-selling authors. More than 25 different categories of books will be available and a separate group of tables will be set up for older classics and collectables. All proceeds go to the library for a number of activities including Baby Time, Sing and Play with Stories and Fayette Kids Read. Donations are accepted at the Library anytime. Pancake Saturday is coming!  Join the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City today from 7 a.m. to 1p.m., at the McIntosh High School Cafeteria for all the pancakes you can eat. The menu also includes sausage, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Tickets are $6 per person in advance, or $7 at the door. Kids under six eat free.  Proceeds from the event benefit many community programs, including funding the DARE program for the Fayette County schools located in Peachtree City. Let’s take a trip to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Here we will find the Atlanta Feds Monetary Museum where we will hear the story of money from barter to modern times. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host it’s monthly meeting today..
