Motorists traveling throughout Coweta County can expect to see temporary closures of some roads at railroad crossings beginning Jan. 13 and extending through Jan. 27.
Approved by the Coweta County Commission Jan. 7, the temporary closure of approximately 50 roadways with railroad crossings is intended to address needed repair and rehabilitation work by Norfolk Southern Railroad.
The tentative closure dates will begin Jan.13 and run through Jan.27.
County Director of Transportation and Engineering Tod Handley said the railroad proposes to close each crossing twice. The first closure will be for preparatory work and the second closure will be for final work and asphalt placement.
“The consultant responsible for coordination of the work has advised that road closures will not begin in the mornings before school start times and that the crossings will be reopened before the school release times in the afternoons to prevent disruptions to bus routes and school traffic,” Handley said.
The temporary closures will be in effect in various locations in Newnan on Jan. 16 and 17, in two locations in Sharpsburg on Jan. 22 and in four locations in Senoia on Jan. 27.
Handley said the progress of the work is dependent upon weather conditions.
