Runoff election pits Councilwoman Fleisch vs. former mayor Logsdon

Advance voting has begun for the runoff election to determine who Peachtree City’s mayor will be for the next four years.

Voters who have made up their minds may cast their ballot Wednesday through Friday of this week and Monday through Wednesday of next week by dropping by the Peachtree City Library between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

If you can’t “early vote” by Wednesday, Nov. 27, you’ll have to wait until election day on Tuesday, Dec. 3 and head to your regular polling place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The runoff election features the top two vote-getters from the general election since none of the five candidates was able to secure more than 50 percent of the vote. The choice is between current Councilwoman Vanessa Fleisch and former mayor Harold Logsdon.

Fleisch was the top vote-getter, pulling in 1,849 votes, good for 39.2 percent. Logsdon tallied 1,291 votes, accounting for 27.4 percent. Former Councilman George Dienhart finished in third with 20.3 percent, followed by political newcomer Ryan Jolly at 7.6 percent and incumbent Mayor Don Haddix who got 5 percent.

Residents who are waiting to vote on election day can confirm their voting precinct in advance by visiting http://mvp.sos.state.ga.us.

The winner of the election will join two new council members in office in January. Residents Mike King and Terry Ernst won two council posts and they will join re-elected Councilwoman Kim Learnard and holdover Councilman Eric Imker.
