Emily Louise Burgess, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away November 12, 2013.
She received her teaching degree from West GA College and her Masters of Education and Reading Specialist Degrees at the University of Georgia. She taught elementary school throughout North Georgia and retired from The Fayette County School System. As the supportive wife of a Methodist minister, she was involved in many churches throughout North Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Gail Burgess King and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years Reverend Leo Burgess of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter Louise Burgess Leachman of Dallas, Ga.; son Ted (Del) Burgess of Fayetteville, Ga.; son Stephen (Kathleen) Burgess of Nashville, Tenn.; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Frank (Frances) Hemphill of Toccoa, Ga.; brother Fred (Barbara) Hemphill of Gillsville, Ga.; and sister Dr. Jonell Cash of Watkinsville, Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service was held Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Sunshine United Methodist Church, Toccoa, Ga. Reverend Edward Johnson, Jr., of Fayetteville, Ga. officiated. The burial followed at Sunshine United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home.
