The Fayette Humane Society will hold its second annual charity golf tournament, “Fore the Paws,” at the Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start for the 4-person scramble will take place at 9 a.m. The $85 per person ticket price includes green fee, golf cart, range balls, continental breakfast, and awards luncheon buffet. Proceeds will be used to fund Fayette Humane Society’s spay/neuter program and to provide veterinary care for rescued cats and dogs. Patrick Dennis owner of the Decatur Gallery and the co-founder and President of the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, LLC will present a program today at the meeting of FAACE. The meeting is held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Peachtree City and begins at 7 p.m. The public is welcome. Dennis is co-founder and manager of popular and successful festivals, outdoor public art events and shows such as the Chastain Arts Festival, the Spring and Fall Fine Art Festival on Ponce, the Summer Piedmont Art Show and the Sandy Springs Art Show. Dennis will focus on the jury process in art shows, how galleries and art shows work and art marketing. The foundation hosted 12 annual art events in 2012.

Fall Taste of Newnan & Chili Cook-off is today from 5 p.m.to 8:30 p.m. Come downtown to enjoy a breath of fresh air and sample specialties of local restaurants and caterers downtown Historical Newnan around the square.

Fayette County Retired Educators meets today at 10:30 a.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center (gym). The program will feature speakers from the Georgia Retired Educators Association. GREA is the only organization that concentrates exclusively on the needs of Georgia retired educators. Fayette County is home to over 1,300 retired educators, and all are welcome to attend our local meetings. Our group welcomes all administrators, teachers, parapros and others who receive their retirement from Teachers Retirement System of Georgia. Retired educators from other counties are also welcome. The 2013 Fall Taste of Newnan, an annual event hosted by Main Street Newnan, is today in downtown Newnan from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature a wonderful assortment of local restaurants and caterers spread across North and South Court Square offering a “taste” of their delectable treats. In addition, this year’s event will feature a Kids Zone along West Washington Avenue, equipped with rides, games, face painting and so much more  With more than 40 participants registered, this year’s event is sure to impress. Live entertainment will feature Jonny Diaz, a Christian main stream artist from Nashville, Tennessee and Paige McCauley, an Atlanta singer and songwriter with country flare. The entertainment is being sponsored by The Joy 93.3 FM, in partnership with The Southern Credit Union.  The live entertainment will be located along West Broad Street.  In addition, tables and chairs will be set up adjacent to the live music stage for those attendees looking to relax and enjoy the event. Tickets will be sold for $1 each at the event or you can beat the crowds and purchase your tokens in advance at one of the following locations: Let Them Eat Toffee, Wellness Center of Piedmont Newnan, R. DuBose Jewelers and Encore Decor. This season’s event will feature ice cream, BBQ, Italian ice, pizza, ribs, baked goods, pasta, seafood, Chinese and Thai selections, candied apples, funnel cakes, fried Oreos, roasted corn, fresh squeezed lemonade, kettle corn and so much more.
 Free public parking lots are available on the corner of LaGrange Street and Spring Street, First Avenue and Spring Street, East Broad Street and Perry Street, as well as East Washington Street and Perry Street. Muster IV, an event that provides military history, is today at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts on Lower Fayetteville Road. Approximately 300 students from Coweta County elementary, middle and high schools will perform patriotic music, Korean veterans will be honored and awards will be presented to essay contest winners.

Promise Place will sponsor its annual 5K “Run from Domestic Violence”/1-Mile Walk  today at Drake Field in Peachtree City. The race begins at 6 p.m.. Race day registration and packet pick-up begins at 5 p.m. Funds raised from this event will go towards maintaining the Emergency Shelter and Transitional House where victims of domestic violence can go for safety, protection and begin to repair and rebuild their lives.

The 13th Annual Southern Crescent Walk To End Alzheimer’s is today in the Frederick Brown Amphitheater parking lot in Peachtree City at 8 a.m. Partici[pants are expected from Clayton, Fayette, Henry, Meriwether, South Fulton and Spalding counties.  A family oriented event, the 3.2 mile walk will take place along shaded paths.  Free lunch is provided.  Donations are gratefully accepted!  For additional information, contact Sue Shaffer at alzwalkshaffer@aol.com.

The Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers’ (MGEVs) Fall Plant Sale is today at  the Coweta County Extension greenhouse located next to the horse arena just inside the Coweta County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fall is a great time to plant shrubs, perennials and trees.  All plants for sale have been propagated or grown by Master Gardener Extension Volunteers (MGEVs).  MGEVs support UGA Cooperative Extension – Coweta County programs through community education, raising funds for scholarships and supporting 4-H.  For more information contact the Coweta County Extension Office at 770-254-2620.

Market Day is today in downtown Newnan from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The market features the best home grown, home made or hand  made products  this side of Atlanta with over 60+ vendors!  Stroll the streets of downtown and discover the unique products.

Pickin’ on the Square in downtown Newnan is today, starting at 11 a.m. All musicians are invited to come down to Newnan’s Historic Courthouse Square and play.  All music genres and skill levels are welcome.  Acoustic only.

Interested in cruising along leisurely by bicycle with a group of fun people in charming Senoia? The Senoia Area Historical Society (SAHS) is sponsoring an easy three-hour bicycle tour of historic Senoia for bicyclists of all ages and abilities.  . 
The tour takes place at 9 a.m.   It will begin and end at the SAHS Headquarters/Museum at 6 Couch Street in Senoia, where riders will have the opportunity to view a brief history of the town and images of some of Senoia’s key citizens and structures from the past, then ride through the Senoia Historic District, making stops in front of homes and churches.  Afterward, enjoy light refreshments and a chance to win a door prize and take a walk through time.  Recommended donations are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 13.  All proceeds benefit the Senoia Area Historical Society.  Donations are tax deductible.  Helmets are required.  Due to frequent stops, walkable cycling shoes are recommended.

Muster IV concludes today at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
The opening ceremony will include flag deliveries, a parachute demonstration and a patriotic ceremony, organizers said.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the day will feature Huey and Cobra helicopter rides, exhibits of military memorabilia by veterans from World War II to present, static displays of military equipment and vehicles, sales  by authors of military-related books and a JROTC Drill Team demonstration.
Included during the event will information booths from Mercer University, University of West Georgia, Brewton Parker College and West Georgia Technical College.
Representatives from military service organizations will be present and the West Georgia Technical College Culinary Arts Dept. will have food for sale.
The Oct. 5 closing ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. and will honor Korean War veterans and include a guest speaker and a remembrance of Korean War soldiers killed in action. The ceremony will conclude with bagpipe music and taps.

A nonpartisan Candidate Forum and Straw Poll is today  in preparation for the November 5 municipal elections. This historic event, featuring candidates from Peachtree City and Tyrone, will take place at 2 p.m. at the Fayette County Library. Each candidate will be allotted two minutes for opening statements. Candidates will then be given one minute to respond to the moderator’s questions and subsequently questions from the audience. Audience members can submit questions, in writing during the program or prior to the event, via emailto: candidateforumqs2013@gmail.com. The event will conclude with one-minute closing statements followed by a straw poll and networking with the candidates.

Attending this event will afford candidates the opportunity to present their position on key issues, engage the community in the democratic process, assist voters in making informed decisions, and promote visibility of candidates. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear in one place a cross-section of issues impacting the community and most importantly, the respective candidates’ views regarding the same. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 1:30pm.

The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club will sponsor a Local Candidate Meet and Greet  today at 6:30pm.  The event will be held at Fayetteville’s Historic Train Depot, 250 Lanier Avenue East. Candidates for local offices in the non-partisan election have been invited to give a brief speech.  Following the speeches, the candidates will be available to talk with constituents. Spring Hill Elementary in Fayetteville, GA will hold the 2nd Annual Trash Dash 5K Race today at 6:30 p.m. with a 1 Mile Fun Run at 6 p.m. Every one that registers before September 27 will receive a T-shirt and refreshments will be provided for runners after the race. The first place male and female finishers will win a $50 gift certificate to Play It Again Sports. The top three 5K age-group winners will receive event awards. Door prizes will also be awarded! 9th annual Lisa’s Ride is today from noon to 1 p.m. (registration begins at 10:30 a.m.) Big Daddy’s Oyster Bar & Pub, 101 Crossing East, Peachtree City. A free oil change for single mothers and widows is today.
 We realize that single mothers are especially challenged in many ways, including car care. They have to do so much for their families that sometimes car maintenance slips through the cracks. The community is invited to enjoy a night of mystery as the fine arts students of Flat Rock Middle host a masquerade ball to raise funds for the school’s band, orchestra, choral and art programs. The ball will take place October from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School. Tickets are $20 for students and $25 for adults. The theme for the evening is “black and white.” Masquerade masks will be available for purchase at the ball.
Participants will enjoy performances from the Flat Rock Middle orchestra and band, as well as disc jockey sound mixes and catered hors d’ oeuvres.
