Congregation B’nai Israel of Fayetteville will soon observe the traditional Jewish High Holidays, complete with the blowing of the shofar, the ram’s horn, which has called Jews to worship since ancient times.
The holidays begin with an evening service for Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, to be held at 8 p.m. on Sept. 4, and a morning service for the New Year at 10 a.m. on Sept. 5.
Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, follows ten days later, beginning with the Kol Nidre service at 8 p.m. on Sept. 13. This solemn ceremony gives Jewish people everywhere an opportunity for introspection and self-examination.
The Yom Kippur morning service begins at 10 a.m. on Sept. 14, ending with a Yizkor/Concluding service at 4 p.m. Jewish observance includes prayers in memory of those who have died and encourages the pledging of monetary support for the synagogue and other worthwhile charities.
All services will be led by Rabbi Louis Feldstein.
The synagogue is on Ga. Hwy. 54, east of downtown Fayetteville near the intersection with Corinth Road.
Tickets for non-members of the synagogue are $75 per person for each holiday or $150 per person for both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.
