Fayette Senior Services (FSS) has announced its participation in the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services “Paper Plate Campaign” to raise money for and awareness of senior meal programs after the U.S. government sequester cut funding for these programs across the country last month.
Over $41,000 in Older American Act (OAA) funding has been cut from the annual operating budget of FSS and these funds will be taken directly from services that provide meals to seniors, including both their Meals On Wheels and Congregate Meals programs, FSS representatives said.
During the month of August, you can make a donation to Fayette Senior Services to receive a paper plate on which you can write a message to Congress urging them to take action and rethink the cuts that have been made to senior meal programs across the country.
Once the plates have been collected at the end of the month, FSS will send them to Congress along with a letter from their president and CEO, Nancy Meaders.
