Fayetteville and Peachtree City have found themselves in some pretty good company. Out of Georgia’s 96 cities with populations of more than 10,000, the two municipalities in Fayette County have been listed by the NerdWallet.com website as being in the top 10 most desirable cities in the state for young families.

Peachtree City was listed as the number 2 city based on the county’s education system and the perfect score listed by GreatSchools.com and as having nearly 100 miles of golf cart paths that accommodate alternative transportation. Access to college campuses also figured into the ranking.

Fayetteville was ranked number 10 by the website. That ranking was also based on high-performing schools, along with historic structures such as the old courthouse and the annual fine art show in the spring.

The top 10 best places for young families, ranked in order, include Evans, Peachtree City, Sugar Hill, Perry, St. Simons, Suwanee, Alpharetta, Martinez, Buford and Fayetteville.

Factors used in scoring included the GreatSchool rating, median home values, monthly homeowner costs, median household income and the income change between 1999-2011, according to NerdWallet.com.
