A study has been approved by the Coweta County Commission that could potentially link Amlajack Road to U.S. Highway 29 at the approved interchange along Interstate 85.

Commissioners last week approved a $35,592 study funded by impact fees that will examine the potential development of a tract of land between Hwy. 29 and I-85 that would impact the proposed alignment of the Edgeworth Road extension to the Amlajack Interchange that was approved by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in January 2012.

The engineering study will analyze an alternate alignment for this connecting roadway and recommend a preferred alignment based upon the minimization of anticipated environmental, historic, traffic, and economic impacts, said Coweta County Transportation and Engineering Director Tod Handley.

The study will be performed by HNTB Corporation, which also prepared the interchange justification report for the project. The company has all of the project data, knows the project history and would be able to amend/update the existing report for any required submittals to FHWA or to the Ga. Dept. of Transportation, officials said.
