Sometimes it does pay to keep a watchful eye out for crime. An anonymous tipster will be receiving a pay day for providing information that led to the arrest and conviction of a Newnan man on charges of serial arson.
The anonymous tipster will receive $5,000 for providing the information that lead to the recent conviction of Willie Claude Mack, according to Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider. Mack was convicted on four counts of intentionally setting four fires on southeast side of downtown Newnan, Snider said.
Snider said the area was the site arson fires at a total of 10 vacant homes between October in 2011 to April 2012.
“We are extremely grateful for the assistance of the individuals who have utilized the anonymous tip line to provide information regarding these fires,” said Newnan Fire Marshal Tim Cox. “Their information has been extraordinarily helpful in furthering the investigation to this point, and we strongly encourage anyone with additional information to call this hotline.”
Snider said another award of $5,000 is being offered by the city for individuals who provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons in connection with the death of Blake Tyler Chappell whose body was found in 2011. Chappell’s partially clothed body was found in a creek near Summergrove Parkway on Dec. 19, 2011, more than two months after he was reported missing. An autopsy determined the 17-year-old Senoia resident died of a gunshot wound. Investigators are currently looking for information that will lead to an arrest in Chappell’s death, Snider said.
And in other cases, Snider said the city is offering rewards of $1,000 each for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the September 1997 murder of Carl Smith and the January 2003 murder of Carlos Barber.
