William Richard Brooks, Sr., age 76 of Peachtree City passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013.
Mr. Brooks was born on July 13, 1936 in Griffin, Ga. to the late Howard and Janie Brooks.
He was a State Champion at Griffin High School in the high hurdles and he was a graduate of the University of Wyoming, which he attended on a football scholarship.
William was a proud member of the Army National Guard for 29 years and a high school football official for 31 years. He was Athletic Director for the Parks and Recreation Department for Peachtree City, until his retirement in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Brooks of Peachtree City; his five children, William Richard Brooks, Jr. and wife Heather of Atlanta, Robin Bauer and husband, David of Cape Coral, Fla., Rene Dadras and husband, Keiwan of Palmdale, Calif., Beth Brooks of Atlanta, Crystal Brooks of Atlanta; three step-children, Jay Bergholt and wife, Brenda, Jody Clay and husband, Richie, Eric Bergholt and wife, Heather. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church in Peachtree City, Ga. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Doctor’s Hospice of Georgia at 1008 Hwy 54 in Fayetteville, Ga. or to Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
