Plans for a doubling in size for a local manufacturing plant, an 81-room hotel and a new workout gym are all on the discussion agenda for Monday night at the Peachtree City Planning Commission.
Gerresheimer-Wilden Plastics is asking for approval to add several buildings totaling 182,645 square feet to its existing plant on 16 acres fronting Ga. Highway 74 South in the Peachtree City Industrial Park.
According to the map accompanying the plans, the proposed expansion more than doubles the size of the current facility.
Wilden is known as the European market leader for manufacturing medical drug-delivery plastic systems.
According to its self-description in the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, “We develop and produce high-quality specialty products made of glass and plastic, primarily for the pharma and life science industry. In addition to specific primary containers for a wide variety of substances and medicines, our product and service portfolio comprises complex drug delivery systems. We are one of the few companies in our sector to specialize equally in both of the major primary-material categories of importance in this demanding market, i.e., glass and plastic.” The plant was acquired by Gerresheimer in 2007.
Wilden’s property is already zoned for the expansion and would not require any further approval by the City Council.
That’s not the story for the proposed four-story, 81-room Fairfield Inn within the Wisdom Point retail center off Hwy. 74 North at Wisdom Road.
The 2.8-acre parcel is already zoned General Commercial, but the applicant is planning to submit a rezoning proposal that would allow the building height to exceed 35 feet.
“The location of a future hotel is also identified although no details have been provided for this development,” the planning documents state.
Fairfield Inn and Suites is owned by Marriott International of Bethesda, Md., which also owns the Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Town Place Suites, and Marriott Executive Apartments chains, as well as the super-luxury Ritz-Carlton.
Also on the workshop agenda this Monday night: World Gym is closing one location just east of Peachtree City and and is asking permission to build a new replacement facility close to McIntosh High School inside the city.
“The proposed development would include a freestanding 21,875-square-foot fitness center and a total of 102 onsite parking spaces, which are in addition to those already in place along Lexington Circle,” according to plans on file with the Peachtree City Planning Commission. “Access to the property would be from the existing traffic circle on Lexington Circle.”
The 2.28-acre site is zoned limited use commercial and abuts the Lexington Village townhomes to the north and Governors Row subdivision to the west, the proposal states.
The proposed new two-story building would include an indoor pool. The new facility would replace the older World Gym about a mile to the east on Ga. Highway 54.
Plans show the new facility would look much like the World Gym on Commerce Drive and Ga. Highway 74.
“There are no plans to close or relocate [World Gym’s] existing facility on Ga. Highway 74,” the planning document states.
The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the council chambers at City Hall.
