Phyllis Maxine McKnight, 72, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.

She was a graduate of Fayette County High School in 1957 and was valedictorian of her class.

She was a long time employee of the Fayette County Tag Office and drove a school bus for the Fayette County School System. She attended Fayetteville First Baptist Church where she was also a member.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Nelson McKnight.

She is survived by her husband, Lee McKnight; children, Scott (Shelli) McKnight of Sharpsburg, Greg (Donna) McKnight of Senoia, Sonya (Jeff) Embrey of Concord, Chris (Mandy) McKnight of Ringgold; grandchildren, Amanda, Maegan, Trevor, Whitney, Kinsley, Macy Ann and Nelson; sisters, Joyce (Paul) Bramlett of Marietta, Janice (Ray) Green of McDonough, Jane (Bobby) Quick of Turin; brothers, Gerald (Debbie) Couch of Palmetto; and sister-in-law, Carol Fossett of Greensboro, N.C. and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Overton Chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

Mrs. McKnight will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. The burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family received friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
