It’s Not All About Me Camp 2012 is the second canned food drive for the Real Life Center in Tyrone. Last year they had one grocery cart of food. This year, with more campers, they were able to collect four grocery carts full of canned goods by going door to door in their neighborhoods. These children spent an entire week serving the community with projects such as planting trees at Blue Smoke Park, picking up trash, refurbishing parking signs, and helping the elderly. The rising fourth graders invited friends to play capture the flag and took donations totaling nearly $300 to benefit the Friday Johnson Home in Brooks, Ga. They also had four lemonade stands in their neighborhoods that raised $250 for an international service project, which was sending 70 children to language classes in Thailand. After a very full week the children were able to see how good it feels and how much fun it can be to help others instead of just thinking about themselves.
