Mr. John David Evans, Sr., born in Gay, Ga., and longtime resident of both Fayetteville and East Point, Ga., passed away on June 2, 2012 at the age of 88.
Mr. Evans was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII.
He attended West Georgia College then graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Georgia. John was a master craftsman who taught industrial arts for many years before taking an administrative position within the Fulton County School System.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher and Georgia Bulldog fan. He was a longtime, faithful member of both the East Point and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his brother James T. Evans. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annette Ayers Evans; son John David Evans, Jr. and his wife Meredith of White Springs, Fla.; and granddaughters Emily Hope Evans, Shannon Joy Evans, and Sadie Grace Evans.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Reverend Mark Westmoreland officiated. Interment followed in Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City.
The family received friends on Monday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
