Mr. Herbert P. Smith of Peachtree City, Ga. died on April 25, 2012.

He was born in Natick, Mass. on July 28, 1923.

His wife of 60 years, Lil, preceded him in death on March 7, 2011.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Karen (John) Harmon of Peachtree City, Virginia (Pete) Pellegrinelli of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Sarah Smith of Peachtree City; his two beloved grandsons, Billy Harmon of Peachtree City and Michael (Kathryn) Harmon of Sharpsburg.

Herb, known to his friends as “Smittie,” had a long and varied career. It started with the Air Force and serving in World War II. After the war, he attended and graduated Tufts University in Mass. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent after college. Many years later, he worked with the Aluminum Company of America as the Public Relations Manager.

He retired from Alcoa and opened his private investigator firm, called Child Find Search Specialists, specializing in recovering parentally abducted children. He was most proud of this career choice and had a 97% recovery rate.

Lastly he focused his life on his two grandsons teaching them many things, especially how to hunt and fish. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed.

He is being cremated and his ashes buried at the family plot in Trotman, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Herb may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
