Starting Tuesday, May 1, the annual open burning ban will be enacted in Fayette County and 44 other counties surrounding metro Atlanta.

The ban is aimed at improving air quality over the summer months.

The ban lasts from May 1 to Sept. 30 each year. During that time frame, no outdoor burning will be allowed.

“it is very important for all citizens in Fayette County to follow the burn ban rules and regulations for the health and safety of our citizens during these months,” said County Fire Marshal and Commander David Scarbrough.

Developers wishing to burn debris from land clearing before Tuesday should contact the county fire department at 770-305-5414.

More information about the ban and safe outdoor burning practices is available online at www.fayettecountyga.gov.
