The First Christian Church of Tyrone will feature a special free program by the international organization “Jews For Jesus” on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. The general public is encouraged to attend.

The main guest speaker will be Mark Landrum, a Georgia native who is presently based in Sydney, Australia. As part of the program, Landrum will lead a “Model Seder.”

Seder is a Yiddish word for the ritual feast that marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Passover.

The ceremony includes a retelling of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt, as described in the Biblical Book of Exodus.

Traditional Seder customs include drinking specified amounts of wine, eating matza, partaking of symbolic foods placed on the Passover Seder plate, and the celebration of freedom.

The Seder is performed in much the same way by Jews all over the world.

“Jews For Jesus” proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world. Jesus’ first disciples were Jewish, and ever since, some Jewish people have continued to believe in him.

“To ‘Jews For Jesus,’ believing in Jesus makes sense in light of the teachings of Jewish Bible and in light of their experiences,” a spokesperson said. “They argue against those who claim that Christianity contradicts the meaning of Judaism.”
