With North Peachtree Parkway slated to be repaved this summer, the Peachtree City Council Thursday night will look at potential traffic calming measures to install at the intersections of Tinsley Mill and Loring Lane roads.
Last August, city staff presented several options that would accomplish the goal of slowing traffic, including mini-roundabouts. Now staff is collecting data with speed studies of the area and the potential crash reduction factors on each various traffic calming device.
The discussion is slated for Thursday night’s council meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The paving project will extend from Ga. Highway 54 northward to Ga. Highway 74.
Also on the agenda is a likely decision to cancel intersection improvements for Redwine and Robinson roads. The intersection does not qualify for a traffic signal and there is no funding for construction of the multiple turn lanes that would be necessary to improve traffic flow at the intersection, according to city staff.
The recommendation is to spend the $110,000 set aside for the intersection on other projects approved for the 2004 transportation sales tax.
In other business, council is slated to approve a $59,616 bid for landscaping the sound barrier walls on Ga. Highway 74 South. The city received a $50,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to cover most of the work, and the landscape plans were prepared by city staff. The remainder of the project cost would be covered by the city’s public improvement program contingency fund.
The low bid of $59,616 came from Tri Scapes, Inc. The next lowest bid was from A Abby Group at $73,309, and two other companies had higher bids.
