There is a change coming to the intersection of South Glynn Street and Grady Avenue in Fayetteville. A right-turn lane is being added on the west side of the intersection with the idea of negating potential back-ups now that the roundabout is functional a couple of blocks away.
In the days prior to the installation of the roundabout there was a diminished potential for traffic to back up at the Grady Avenue/South Glynn Street intersection. But the dramatic improvement in traffic flow seen after the roundabout opened led to the city’s decision last year to add a southbound right-turn lane and a longer left-turn lane at the Grady/South Glynn intersection.
Now under construction and expected to be completed in early April, the project will add a 350-foot lane for right turns and will extend the current left-turn lane to 200 feet.
The project cost totals $125,000, with $108,000 coming from state funds and the remainder from existing city SPLOST (1-cent sales tax) funds.
