Council was right to take Haddix off tax team

Mayor Haddix’s latest ego-inflated tirade regarding the business of selecting the city’s sales tax negotiating team is yet another disgrace.

Council member [Eric] Imker pointed out that the best team would be the city manager, city finance director and city attorney. The mayor insisted he be on the three-member team.

The mayor is the LAST person we want on that team. This is the man who’s proposal to “fix” the city’s budget would have the city bankrupt by 2014 (pointed out by the city’s financial director and Councilman Fleisch).

Imker mentioned that a lot of people perhaps would have thought he (Imker) would be a good add on to the negotiating team (recognized as the council’s most experienced financial manager) but stated it would not be in the best interest of the city.

Imker prefers to be in the background providing advice, not taking center stage like the mayor.

The mayor was asked if he would challenge the selectees by initiating a lawsuit against the city so he could appoint himself on the negotiating team. He did not answer yes or no.

The State of the City address to the Rotary by Mayor Haddix was an embarrassment for our city. Instead of talking about the city and its future, seemed like half his speech was talking about himself and censure last year.

Peachtree City needs a new mayor.
