Peachtree City will spend up to $60,000 to remodel the Gathering Place senior citizens center, with the funds coming from a $3 million bond to improve city facilities that was approved late last year.
The upgrades are needed to comply with a pact brokered with Fayette Senior Services, which in January began administering senior programs at the Gathering Place, said Community Services Director Jon Rorie.
The funds will cover new paint on the inside and outside, new flooring, kitchen cabinet improvements and repairs and also fixes for the heating, ventilation and cooling system.
Rorie said there are some bids already out for the project, as he realizes council wants to proceed with work as soon as possible. He warned that there might be a snag with the flooring issue, but he is hopeful the matter can be addressed without disturbing programs.
