Commissioner Horgan discounts rights of bypass opponents

Mr. Horgan, during the commission meeting on Feb. 9, you made a statement with reference to the fact that you were “tired” of every time an agenda item funding any portion of the West Fayetteville Bypass came up it resulted in a 3 to 2 vote.

I assume you were referring to the fact that commissioners Brown and McCarty vote against funds going toward the West Fayetteville Bypass.

Commissioners Brown and McCarty were elected, with a wide margin, by citizens who are against the West Bypass. Those citizens have a right to be represented by the people they elected to office.

Commissioner Brown and Commissioner McCarty have a right to vote the way they see fit.

Issues surrounding the West Fayetteville Bypass are far more varied than money. I have never heard you, Chairman Frady, or Commissioner Hearn address the environmental, community, conflict of interest, need, waste, development, economic, and infrastructure components of the West Fayetteville Bypass issue.

Shouldn’t those components be considered when making decisions to spend millions upon millions in tax dollars? Commissioners Brown and McCarty have based their West Bypass votes on all of those issues.

Would you please give me the specifics as to the last time you voted against Mr. Frady on any issue?

I have been attending commission meetings, on a regular basis, for the last three and one-half years. Since January 2011, I have not witnessed you or Commissioner Hearn voting in opposition to Chairman Frady.

However, I have witnessed commissioners Brown and McCarty voting in opposition to each other, with Mr. Frady, and against Mr. Frady. Also, I have not seen any issue passing that you, Mr. Frady or Mr. Hearn voted against. I have not seen an issue any of you voted for not passing.

It seems to me and many others that since you and Commissioner Hearn always vote with Chairman Frady, it is fair to say that Mr. Frady rules the Fayette County government. Chairman Frady, Commissioner Hearn, and you have formed an alliance against a portion of Fayette County citizens.

Commissioner Brown made the statement last night that there hasn’t been one person to speak in favor of the West Fayetteville Bypass during public comments.

All the citizens who have spoken against the bypass live throughout the county. There have been many people from Fayetteville, Tyrone, Peachtree City, Brooks, Woolsey and outlying regions of the county. Those voters deserve representation on our Board of Commissioners.

Mr. Horgan, did you ever take into consideration that there just might be a large segment of the Fayette population who are tired of you, Mr. Frady, and Mr. Hearn voting in alliance against them?

With the results of our county election this year, I’m sure it will be obvious that those folks are the majority.

Requesting the favor of a reply,
