It looks like Fayette County might end the year with some of the lowest unemployment rates seen in quite some time. Fayette’s jobless rate fell to 8.1 percent in November while the rate in Peachtree City hit 7.8 percent.
In Fayette County the jobless numbers practically plummeted in November to 8.1 percent. That represents a drop of nearly three-fourths of a point from the 8.8 percent rate in October. By way of comparison, the unemployment rate a year ago stood at 8.7 percent. And aside from the 8.1 percent rate that also occurred in May, it was back in May 2009 when Fayette saw a rate that low.
The November figures for Fayette County translates into 4,139 people out of work in workforce of 50,875.
The jobless picture also improved significantly in Peachtree City during November. The 7.8 percent unemployment rate in October gave way to a rate of 7.2 percent November. That figure represents 1,163 people out of work in a city workforce of 16,240. Peachtree City’s jobless rate a year ago was 7.3 percent.
November unemployment numbers also fell rather dramatically in the 10-county Atlanta Regional Commission area. The 9.1 percent rate in November compares to a 9.8 percent rate in October and a rate of 10.2 percent in November 2010.
The improved jobless picture throughout the 28-county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area showed that the 9.9 percent unemployment rate in October fell to 9.2 percent in November and compares to the 10.3 percent rate a year ago.
Statewide the unemployment picture fell from 9.9 percent in October to 9.3 percent in November and 10.3 percent a year ago. The November figure represents nearly 440,000 people unemployed out of a workforce of 4.75 million.
