Bette Priest Carlton, 82, of Watkinsville, Ga., formerly from Peachtree City, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.

Born on Dec. 17, 1928 in Wilkinson County, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Earnest Birtan and Johny Olivia Priest and was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James Conner Carlton; son Jack Conner Carlton; three brothers, Carl, Birtan and Lionel Priest; and sister Myrtle Priest Butler.

Mrs. Carlton graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, La., and attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She was a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines. After her service to Delta, Mrs. Carlton became a devoted homemaker and community service volunteer. She was also a master bridge player. Mrs. Carlton was a member of Heritage Christian Church in Peachtree City.

Survivors include her son, James Priest Carlton of Panacea, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Carlton Fite (Wiley M.) of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Ashley Carlton Bowen (Glen), Britney Carlton and James Carlton of Atlanta; Elizabeth Fite and Austin Fite of Watkinsville; great-grandchildren Caroline and Allie Bowen of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City with Dr. Bob Bohler officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The family will receive guests at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
