The Peachtree City Council will consider renewing its moratorium on multi-family housing rezonings as part of a very light agenda Thursday night.
The moratorium means that anyone wanting to rezone a tract for multi-family use must first gain approval from City Council before submitting a rezoning request to city staff.
The moratorium does not apply to property that is already zoned for multi-family use, according to the memorandum from City Clerk Betsy Tyler that was circulated to council members.
The moratorium notes that additional multi-family housing in the city would:
• Create a significant burden on police, fire and emergency services;
• Overburden area schools;
• Exhaust available resources, thereby reducing the quality of life; and
• Increase traffic congestion and reduce air quality.
The moratorium was first enacted in 1999 and is considered for renewal on an annual basis.
The only other item of note on the agenda is a presentation to council by the Friends of the Library and approval of a stormwater facility maintenance agreement for the new Walgreens pharmacy.
The stormwater agreement spells out what the property owner must do to maintain the facility, but the city’s only obligation is to inspect it periodically, according to city staff.
