Mr. Harold William Copeland, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on Oct. 20, 2011.

Mr. Copeland was born March 27, 1925, in Whitesburg, Ga.; his family later relocated to Coweta County in 1933.

In 1942, he graduated from Western High School. Mr. Copeland entered the US Navy in 1943 where he proudly served in the Asian Pacific Theater of Operations and was honorably discharged in 1947.

He worked for the Sperry Corp. & Norfolk Southern Railroad where he retired as a Chief Rail Test Officer.

Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Eva Copeland; sister Lois Taylor; brothers Render Copeland and B.L. Copeland, Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Mary Liz (Jones) Copeland; daughters Mary Copeland of Atlanta, and Sally Zengaro and her husband Francesco of Pensacola, Fla; grandchildren Elizabetta Zengaro and Matteo Zengaro; sister Juanita C. Wortham of Newnan; brother Glen Copeland and his wife Sheryl of Tampa, Fla.; nieces, Chris P. Burtnett, Carolyn W. Hudson, Sandra W. Dominy and Jennifer C. Gilbert; nephews, Larry Wortham, Curtis Wortham, Glen Copeland, Jr., Stephen Copeland, Forest Copeland, Matthew Copeland and Stan Ward and wife, Lynn; dear friends Linda Williams and Barbara Wetzler.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville with Minister Jerry Manning officiating.

The burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Ga.

The family received friends on Saturday at the funeral home.
