Mr. Arthur “Art” Amavisco Mendoza, of Fayetteville, passed away on Oct. 14, 2011 at the age of 79.

Mr. Mendoza was a veteran in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for twenty years prior to his retirement. During his military career he served as a medic in M.A.S.H. units during the Korean Conflict. His duties later took him to Greenland, Spain and then back to the United States. While in service to his country, Art used his spare time to continue his education and became a Physician’s Assistant. Following his military retirement, Art served as a P.A. in the Federal Prison System employed at the Atlanta Penitentiary. He used his talents as a medical professional as well as his fluency in Spanish to help others as a volunteer at the Fayetteville “free clinic”.

Arthur was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was very intelligent, generous and giving person, with a great sense of humor. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and his goal in life was to always put God first, with his family following a very close second.

Arthur is preceded in death by his wife Raynelle Mendoza.

He is survived by his son and daughter Steve McGuire and Emmy McGuire of Tallahassee, Fla., son Mickey McGuire and his wife Sherri of Lancaster, Ohio, daughter Vickie Hendershot and her husband John of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Samantha FitzGerald of Tallahassee, Stephen McGuire of Springfield, Mo., Michael FitzGerald of Tallahassee, Christopher McGuire of Jacksonville, Fla., Melissa Nutter and her husband Jason, Joel McGuire and his wife Laura, of Lancaster, Ohio, Brittney Hendershot and Jonathan Hendershot of Fayetteville, Ga., Stephen McGuire, Springfield, Mo.; great-grandchildren Tyler Perillo, Madison Nutter, Reagan Nutter, Ian McGuire; and sister Irma Cordova of Tempe, Ariz.

A Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct.18, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Father Pavol Brenkus will officiate.

The family received friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. In lieu of flowers, those who prefer may make a memorial donation in Art’s honor to the American Heart Association. www.donateamericanheart.org.
