Gena Turner (Mary Eugenia Wright Turner), 71, of Fayetteville, Ga., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 14, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with myelofibrosis and leukemia. She is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Turner, and by her parents, Martha Duke Wright and W. E. Wright, and a host of friends and relatives.

Her living heritage includes her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Don Lindsey of Fayetteville, Ga., her son and daughter-in-law, J.T. and Sheryl Turner of Alabaster, Ala. and ten grandchildren: Lisabeth, Samuel, Timothy, Savannah and Noah Lindsey of Fayetteville, Ga. and Kaitlyn, Madison, Jett, Zeke, and Elly Turner of Alabaster, Ala.

She is also survived by her loving sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Dyer of The Villages, FL, sisters-in-law Carol Turner of Acworth, Ga. and Debbie (and Marc) Daniel of Marietta, Ga., six nephews and their families, and dear friends, Betty and Jimmy Gober of Fayetteville, Ga.

Gena was born on Sept. 4, 1940, in Atlanta, where she grew up and graduated from Bass High School in 1958. She was a long-time secretary with the Fayette County school system, retiring in 2010. Gena worked with the Youth Department, sang in the Adult Choir, and co-led the GriefShare program at Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

Gena would want you to be happy for her – she is free of pain, reunited with loved ones, and has victory in Jesus! The family received friends on Friday evening at Mowell’s in Fayetteville from 5-8 p.m. Homegoing celebration was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fayetteville First Baptist Church with burial following at Camp Memorial in Fayetteville, Ga.

Services were conducted by Rev. Jim Battles, Rev. Chris Perkins, and Rev. J.T. Turner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the One Way Ministries JET Mission Fund or the GriefShare Program at Fayetteville First Baptist Church.
