Several employees of the Tyrone Sonic Drive-In restaurant thwarted a gunman who tried to rob the store Monday night close to 10 p.m., police said.

The gunman fired one round into a doorway

during the incident, police said.

The employees then locked themselves in the cooler and the suspect left the area on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The gunman was described as a black male wearing all black and gray clothing with a gray bandana across his face. He was approximately 5’5” to 5’6” tall with a slim build and a “close cut” or bald hairstyle.

The gunman, armed with a silver handgun, used the weapon to tap on the glass of the drive through window and demanded money, police said.

Employees told him they didn’t have any money, and that’s when the suspect went to the west side of the building and fired one shot into the doorway. The bullet was found in the bottom of the door frame.
