Representatives of the LongHorn Steakhouse currently under construction on Ga. Highway 85 just south of the Fayette Pavilion are requesting a sign variance that would allow additional exterior wall signage and an increase in the maximum square footage allowed by city ordinance. The request will be heard by the Fayetteville City Council at the Aug. 18 meeting.
Senior Planner Linwood Robinson said the request comes with two components. The first seeks to have three wall signs rather than the two allowed. The third sign pertains to the company’s “Steer Logo” for purposes of brand identification, Robinson said, adding that the logo constitutes a third wall sign.
The second request would have the maximum total square footage approved for 194 square feet rather than the 142 square feet allowed. That square footage would accommodate a total of three wall signs and a ground sign, city staff said.
The placement of the steer logo sign on the front of the building would be relatively unobtrusive and almost unnoticeable on the front of the building, Robinson said.
Planning staff is recommending approval of the request.
Robinson said the sign requests would provide for the size and scale of signage on the building to remain consistent while accomplishing the applicant’s goal of maintaining corporate identity and providing appropriate signage for their business.
The 6,242 square-foot LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant is being constructed on the site of the former Johnny Carinos restaurant on Hwy. 85 North just south of the Fayette Pavilion.
The restaurant may open during the first week in November.
