First Lady of Georgia Mrs. Sandra Deal recently visited the Christian City campus for a tour and lunch.
After attending Christian City’s Hopes and Dreams Luncheon featuring Former First Lady Laura Bush, Deal became interested in the ministries for abandoned and abused children and seniors Christian City offers. As an advocate for volunteerism and serving the community, Deal was impressed by all the opportunities Christian City offers, both for those in need and for those who want to help others.
During her visit, she toured the cottages at The Children’s Village to get a better understanding of the day to day care the house parents provide. She stopped in a girl’s cottage and made cookies with some of the girls, ages 5 to 17, who presented her with a special Children’s Village apron.
Deal also toured the senior housing areas, the assisted living facilities, and nursing and rehabilitation areas to gain a good understanding of the entire scope of the Christian City ministries.
While stopping at Graceland Thrift Store she shopped and complimented Christian City’s efforts to serve the community by offering affordable clothing and household items while funding the children’s education with the proceeds.
Plans to bring Governor Deal to visit Christian City are in the works, as are plans to take some of The Children’s Village residents to the Governor’s Mansion for a tour.
