This summer, 325 children from 119 families in the Fayette area were in need of a nutritious meal.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Fayette County Department of Family and Children’s service, area congregations, and the support of community partners, these children received a free lunch every weekday.
This year, Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran, Peachtree City First Baptist Church, New Vision Church in Fayetteville, Peachtree City Presbyterian and the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta and Islamic Speakers Bureau helped with the effort.
Community partners assisted with food, supplies and financial help. Among the businesses and groups that supported the effort were Publix, Ingles, Sam’s Club, the Master Gardeners of Fayette County, the Fayetteville Dwarf House, the Fayetteville Town Square Chick-fil-A, and the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta.
This does not include all the dedicated cookie-bakers, sandwich-makers, lunch-stuffers, route drivers and independent sponsors.
“Each year, the Summer Lunch Program has grown and with God’s blessings allowed us to continue to assist with the rising need in our community,” a spokesperson said. “Thank you to everyone who participated for your generous support that continues to make this ministry possible.”
